Abductions, killings, extortions continue like the war

The Tamil daily paper Virakesari last week reported in its front page that the JHU had stated that it would withdraw support to the government the moment the latter sidestepped the ‘Mahinda Chinthana’.
‘Mahinda Chinthana’ itself is the culmination of agreements signed by the President with the JVP and JHU, the latter stating that they were entering politics to ensure corrupt and fear-free politics.
It is about two years since signing the agreement, but except pursuing the war, without option to settle the national problem, the ‘Mahinda Chinthana’ has been reduced in value, less than even the paper that it is written on, with daily incidents of involuntary disappearances, abductions, killings and extortions –mostly of Tamils increasing. The Sunday Leader of April 15, detailing the abductions states that on one occasion the relatives of an abductee sought the intervention of a politician and got the abductee released and on another, the abductee was released after a diplomatic mission spoke to the president.
These details leave much to be desired and reveal that those in authority and the JHU know the culprits. Nevertheless since everything taking place is attributed to the ‘Mahinda Chinthana’ – like a Manthra – I would like to be enlightened whether, when the JHU says, it will withdraw support to the government the movement the government sidestepped the Mahinda Chinthanaya, it means the war, the abductions, killings, disappearances and extortions.
