UNP parliamentarians say war a facade to hide problems
Sri Lanka the Government is using the war as a façade to hide behind and escape from the countless problems it has created in the country, United National Party (UNP) parliamentarian Ravi Karunanayake said yesterday.
Even for election propaganda, government is just quoting the war, he pointed out in a press briefing.
On the provincial election campaign trial, the UNP is saying peoples’ day to day life struggles are mounting as the war rages in North. The government is lacking funds to serve the needs of the people, say the UNP campaigners at rallies and media briefings.
Another parliamentarian Gayantha Karunatileke MP said Sri Lanka government has not been paying attention to the living conditions of people in the North Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces; until the provincial council elections were called it was not even talking about it he added.
According to a report on the UNP website, Gayantha Karunatileke MP pointed out that many of the Schools are closed; Govt. dispensaries are without drugs-not even panadols are available for the patients ; Gas , food prices and electricity tariffs are up; milk food prices, bus fares , and even poor man’s essential commodity , the Kerosene oil are at sky high level .
Roads are not getting developed, people’s living conditions are not improving, rather it is the Ministers and Members of the Councils who have developed, he lamented.
