Now it’s the turn of Kamal Haasan … the
Kamal’s craving for literature began even as a boy,
when literary stalwarts stomped the Haasan home in
the form of dinner table conversations. “Everyone in
the family was highly educated. The works of V.S.
Khandekar and ‘Kalaignar’ were common subjects
of discussion. Unwittingly my ears fed on them.
Being a high school dropout I panicked. I had to
belong and so I had to educate myself.”
Rajnikant to join Tussauds? [Rediff]
There is a saying in Tamil Nadu that, through
constant iteration, has become fact: Ask any
including the youngest child who 'Superstar' is, and
you will get only one reply -- Rajnikanth.
Neither increasing age nor a decreasing hairline
has caused the Rajnikanth magic to wane -- de
facto membership in the legion of his fans is passed
down from Tamil father to son/daughter, almost like
a family heirloom.

Be stimulated by Kundalini yoga [ST]
By Madhushala Senaratne
A renowned master of kundalini yoga once said that
it is our birthright to be happy, healthy and holy.
“However the fulfilment of this right depends on our
ability to be in control of our acts and ourselves and
yoga is a tool which helps us achieve this state,”
says Cormac Davey who teaches this form of yoga
We live in a stressful, anxious and insecure world,
where we are hardly conscious of our acts. “For
example consider a simple act such as breathing.

MAYA ARULPRAGASAM’S Brooklyn apartment
was a neglected mess when she finally returned
to it last month after six months abroad. But it took
only a day to straighten it up and turn it into her
version of a pied-à-terre, a makeshift multimedia
headquarters. An audio mixing board, film
canisters and shiny gold and black dancing outfits
stood on one side of the apartment, and half of an
uneaten papaya waited on a table in the back.
Ms. Arulpragasam — better known as the rapper
M.I.A. — was in town for only about a week before
going on tour, and when asked when she would
return to the apartment, a spacious studio in
Bedford-Stuyvesant, a Caribbean and African
immigrant neighborhood, she shrugged.

Non-Violent Approach Can Lead To Positive Political Changes [FI]
By His Holiness The Dalai Lama
The thousands of people who marched in the cities of Eastern Europe in recent
decades, the unwavering determination of the people in my homeland of Tibet and
the recent demonstrations in Burma are powerful reminders of this truth.
Freedom is the very source of creativity and human development. It is not enough,
as Communist systems assumed, to provide people with food, shelter and clothing.
If we have these things but lack the precious air of liberty to sustain our deeper
nature, we remain only half human.
Campaign to Restore the Rights of the Ethnically Cleansed Northern
by Shahul Hasbullah
In October 2007, a month long campaign to “restore the rights of the ethnically
cleansed Northern Muslims” was launched. In pursuance of this a team of
researchers set up a fact finding mission to investigate the current conditions,
future needs and aspirations of displaced Muslims, living mainly in Puttalam
district, and to highlight the above in order to find durable solutions to this
problem. The fact finding mission attempted to answer the following questions:
What prevents Northern Province Muslims to return homes? What impact has the
17 year long displacement made in the lives of the displaced?

The National Crisis
Several connected trends have heightened our National Crisis. At least eight of
these need immediate arrest and transformation if we are to raise our heads as a
democratic and just people. These are:
The sustained alienation and humiliation especially of the Tamils, the largest

Michael Tomasky asks Hillary Clinton about Iraq, the legacy of the Cold War,
Mukasey and ceding executive powers
Yeah. Do you think that the terrorists hate us for our freedoms, or do you think
they have specific geopolitical objectives? [Audio on You Tube]
Well, I believe that terrorism is a tool that has been utilized throughout history to
achieve certain objectives. Some have been ideological, others territorial. There
are personality-driven terroristic objectives. The bottom line is, you can't lump all
terrorists together. And I think we've got to do a much better job of clarifying what
are the motivations, the raisons d'être of terrorists. I mean, what the Tamil Tigers
are fighting for in Sri Lanka, or the Basque separatists in Spain, or the insurgents
in al-Anbar province may only be connected by tactics. [Guardian.UK]
