Interim order against P-TOMS [BBC]

JVP argued the government has no power to sign a pact with
the LTTE
Sri Lanka’s Supreme Court issued an interim order preventing
the implementation of part of the Tsunami Relief Council (TRC)
agreement signed between the government and the Tamil
Tigers.
The courts ruled that the part of the deal, widely known as Post-
Tsunami Operational Management Structure (P-TOMS), is
against Sri Lanka’s constitution.

The Supreme Court stressed that the whole P-

Fowzie : JM victory for Muslims [BBC]

Fowzie says the LTTE has accepted Muslims as
a separate nation;

Sri Lanka’s Muslims will take necessary action if the Tsunami
Relief Council (TRC) ignores the plight of the tsunami-hit
Muslims, a senior minister said.
Minister of Environmental Affairs and Natural Resources AHM
Fowzie said, however, they should recognise the fact that the
LTTE has, for the first time, accepted Muslims as a different
nation living in the north east.
People strongly favour peace- If the conflict
is not addressed, war will resume:

International community must try to
implement P-TOMS [LTTEPS]

Editorial column of the Viduthalaipillikal

Post Tsunami Operational Management Structure (P-TOMS)
has been signed.

Six months after the tsunami destruction following a lot of effort
from the international community Chandrika government has
half heartedly signed the agreement.

The world shocked by the tsunami destruction generously gave
aid for the rehabilitation of the affected people. When
Chandrika government wanted to channel all of the funds
through the Sinhala government the LTTE voiced objections
and gave reasons for their objections.

Tamil people were elated when the international community
took the decision to channel the funds for the reconstruction of
Northeast through the LTTE administration rather than through
the Sinhala government as in the past.
CJ : LTTE controls parts of Lanka [BBC]

'Country must realise that there is a separate
administration within SL'

Sri Lanka’s Supreme Court refused to issue an interim order
preventing the functioning of Tsunami Relief Council (TRC)
between the government and the Tamil Tigers.
Making the ruling the Supreme Court observed that there is a
separate administration under the LTTE in Sri Lanka’s north
and east.

However, the Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed a petition
filed by Sinhala nationalist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP)
against the TRC to proceed.

Chief Justice Sarath Nanda Silva said there should be a
mechanism to provide relief to tsunami affected people under
Tamil Tigers’ control.

Salt pan workers rebuild their lives [BBC]

Thirty-year-old Kala works under the scorching sun for up to
eight hours every day making salt from sea water.

Aadi Pirappu
According to the Tamil calendar, Aadi is the fourth month of
the year. The first day of this month, usually falling on July
16-17, is celebrated as Aadi Pandigai or Aadi Pirappu, which is
an important festival to most Tamils, especially newly-weds.
The Aagamas and the Vedas ascribe no special significance to
the day and so it is seen and celebrated more as a traditional
festival.

Aadi is also a sacred month. The birth of Aadi itself known as
Aadi Pirappu, is important and on that day special food is
prepared to herald the month - the aadi kool, a porridge which
is served to all who may call on that day.

yet another milestone fetching him the Filmfare award for best

busy with ``Gajini" soon to be released. Excerpts from an
