She Who Carries Sorrow
Kim Roberts
The stars keep guard in the darkness.
She who carries sorrow,
even in drought, drowns all her promises.
Even she who carries water,in sorrow
dissolves her body,
its correspondences,its scars,
her ordinary body
in its warning hours of darkness.
Storm-starved,corn stalks with narrow arms
stretch heavenward,watching.
