Love Letter on the
web
By Yohan Perera
Marking another milestone in
the local film industry a
website was launched recently
relating to a Tamil film shot in
India and Sri Lanka.
The film ‘Kaadhal Kaditham’ (Love Letter) has many firsts to its credit.
It is for the first time that a web site is being launched for a Tamil
movie in Sri Lanka. It is also the first Tamil Movie which has been shot
in Sri Lanka since decades. It is also the first time the National Film
Corporation is doing a joint production with a foreign movie production
company. It has teamed up with Waterfall Movie Makers to produce
the film.
National Film Corporation General Manager Saman Weeraman who
addressed the website launch said that the joint effort of the
Corporation and Waterfall Movie Makers was a successful one and
believed it would pave the way for the strengthening of cultural
relations between India and Sri Lanka. He congratulated the film’s
producer T Thillainathan for his efforts. Mr. Weeraman was confident
that the corporation will be able to tie up with more film makers in other
states of India and create a revolution in the movie industry in Sri
Lanka and in the region.
Mr. Thillainathan said that he had learnt a lot about the Sri Lankan film
industry through this production.
Deputy Media Minister Cegu Issadeen who was the chief guest at the
launch said that Thillainathan had taken an important initiative where
more quality joint productions between Sri Lankan and India can take
place in the future.
“ The standard of the Sinhalese movies have increased over the years
and the Tamil film producers can also follow suit with the initiative
taken by Thinnainathan.
The story of the film bridges both India and Sri Lanka through the
medium of love. This production is a nature oriented and full of new
concepts. It is produced with new comers but with talented technicians
such as Mukesh who is the director, B. R. Rajan with recording, and
lyrics writing by Vaseetharan.
The actors include Shri Balagi and Anisha who are playing the lead
role. Two Sri Lankans are also playing roles in the film together with
the Indian actors. One of them is Nadaraja Sivam who is a well-known
announcer and actor who has not only earned a name for him self
among the Tamil community but among the Sinhala community as well
through his roles in a number of tele-drams such as Yasoravaya and
Lahiru Dahasak. The other Sri Lankan is A. E. Manoharan who rose to
fame in the 70s as a singer.
There are six songs in the movie penned by Vaseegaran to lilting
tunes of Udaya. The catchy lyrics set to the scintillating music is
already a craze among the younger set, as the musical album was
released some time ago. Furthermore, this is the first time in the Tamil;
cinema history of Sri Lanka that the Colombo University has been
used as a film location. It is used in the film as the Chennai Music
College. [Courtesy: Daily Mirror]
